What Should I Do When a Fire occurs:
1. If a smoke detector goes off, smoke can be smelt or smoke can be seen coming under the door, first feel the door to see if it is hot. Use palm of your hand and forearm to feel the whole door.
2. Close doors and windows to cut off smoke and fire. Always feel door before opening it and open doors with extreme caution..
3. Stay low to avoid smoke and toxic gasses.
4. Use moist rags, towels, throw rugs, wide tape etc., to block off smoke entering under and around doors.
5. Cover your mouth and nose with a damp cloth and stay below smoke..
6. Caution should be used in opening room windows. Generally, open the window only if smoke has entered room and breathing becomes difficult..
7. If there is a telephone in the room, call for help. If not, yell out the window or make additional noises to attract attention
8. If it is safe to have the window open, wave a sheet, large piece of cloth, or bright object outside the window to attract attention
9. Wait for rescue
10. Use caution when opening windows and only open them enough to provide you with fresh air to breathe or attract attention to your location
