Over the years the Organisation has been forced to expand the scope of its responsibility to respond to other emergencies such as flooding and landslides, as well as man-made disasters such as oil spills, industrial fires, aircraft crashes and large scale public service vehicle accidents.
The organisation is currently conducting a review of its Structure and Operations. One of the main areas of review will be Disaster Management Legislation, which is intended to give the organisation legal authority. The organisation is also reviewing and consolidating its plans and procedures into a National Multi-hazard Disaster Management Plan.
